It was Adam's 30th birthday yesterday! Look who came to pay him a birthday surprise visit!

A.K.A.: Brother-in-law/Comic Geek Buddy Adelmo!


I arranged for Adelmo to make a surprise visit for Adam's big 3-0 so they could spend some well deserved geeking around time together.

In other news:

The upstairs renovation is coming along. We've ordered carpet, which we expect to be installed in the next week or two. The upstairs windows should be here by the end of March. Here are a couple of pictures of Adam sanding upstairs to prepare to stain some of the wood work:





Also, in my effort to furnish the house one step at a time, I bought a new rug from Crate & Barrel to go under the dining room table. I likey likey. Here are a couple pics:

Here's what's been up since December....

We got lots of snow and Adam got to shovel...


My friend Kate came to visit from Germany, and we made smores...




Joe and Adam fixed some of our broken stairs in preparation for carpet...



Adam painted the bathroom "light french grey"...


AND we intereviewed many vendors for new windows upstairs....





PS: we did not choose Home Depot :)

Adam and his Dad discussed plans for the comic room and cut a hole in the wall in that room for access to the kitchen electrical...



I bought Adam this nifty accesory for the comic room...


And, we hung some pretty curtains in my office...




Oh! And I bought these fun lamps for the living room, and got this neato table for $10 at an estate sale...



That's the update! We ordered five new windows for our upstairs which should be installed in the next 4-6 weeks. Carpet will be ordered this week. Adam and his dad are working on finishing up the trim and odds and ends upstairs!

Merry Christmas from the Nemecs!

Merry Christmas Everyone! Hope it was wonderful! Here we are all cute, since we usually look grubby on this blog:

As some of you know, I made Adam a special present for Christmas. He is a huge comic fan. And, as some of you know, one of our upstairs bedrooms will be "the comic room". This will be Adam's place for all things comic related. It is where his collection of over 8,000 comic books will live.

Anyway, I thought it would be nice to make him a piece of furniture for his comic room. A place to store his supplies for archiving. So I bought an old night stand, and decoupaged it with Flash comics (Flash is Adam's favorite comic book. Silver age Flash specifically):

So, the upstairs is coming along. One more room to paint, a couple stairs to fix... we're planning to get all new windows up there, and then, CARPET! I can't wait!

Winter Wonderland

Look who arrived in our front yard this weekend! Frosty!

My husband has been coveting a plastic snowman mold to adorn our front yard.
Not one of those fancy animatronic deals, or one of those super huge inflatable things --
a plastic, looks-like-it-is-from-1980 snowman mold.

And he got his wish. Look how happy he is:


This weekend, like always, was a work weekend. Here are some pictures:

Now we need to rehang it and I need to clean/hang the crystals. Ooo la la. Fancy.

We decided against getting a tree this year for upstairs, since we are still in a state of renovating. However, our old fake tree from the apartment is holding down the fort in the basement:
